Whiskey Kitchen Review

If you live in Raleigh, or have visited, I am sure you have heard or seen of this place. It’s kind of hard to miss. Located right in the heart of downtown, with a beautiful outside seating area, this place makes for a great brunch spot. The outside seating area has an incredible ambiance on a nice day. Not to mention, it’s pet friendly, which makes any restaurant 10x’s better (new puppy friends all day).

Their website perfectly describes them. They are “neighborhood bar mixed with southern kitchen”. Doesn’t that paint a nice picture for you and make you hungry, all at the same time?

Although, this place is bumpin’ on the weekends, I will gladly vouch that this place makes a good date night location during the week when there isn’t too much of a crowd. It’s a very spacious place with plenty of of seating, which makes for a pretty private dinner.

Although I am not a “southern” kind of girl, I really love what they did with their menu. They have a great combination of Southern yet unique dishes. Don’t get me started on their dessert. I need to go back for this reason a lone. I actually haven’t tried their desserts, but you can find them on their menu here.  I’m sure we can all agree that we need to try all of their desserts. Am I right?

The last time I visited Whiskey Kitchen, I got the boiled peanuts, and no they’re nothing but ordinary. They are covered with spices and pickled chilis and basically are the shit. You can’t just have one. Promise!

To pair with that, I got their NC Boil which comes with NC shrimp, sweet corn, creamer potatoes, smoked sausage, and house seasoning. Too good. Paired this with a Beer. Safe to say I was in heaven.

I had some lovely company with me. My friend Aryn, who I got to meet this year during a styled shoot we put together, was sweet enough to join me on a whim. She was happy with her white wine and some delicious looking wedge taters. She’s actually vegan, so it’s safe to say that vegans are very much welcome.

All in all I give this place a 9/10. I would give them a 10, but I feel their menu could use just a few more options.

I hope you try them soon if you haven’t. And if you have, what do you recommend? I’d love to know! Let me know in the comments below 🙂
